A few prominent Mississippi blues and rock artists have gotten Grammy nominations.
Jackson’s 86-year-old Bobby Rush got a Best Traditional Blues Album nomination for his album “Rawer Than Raw.” Rush recently won a Grammy grant for his 2017 record, “Porcupine Meat.”
Rush has won twelve Blues Music Awards and been accepted into the Blues Hall of Fame just as the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame.
Jimmy “Duck” Holmes of Bentonia likewise got a Best Traditional Blues Album nomination, for his collection “Cypress Grove.”
Holmes, 73, is the proprietor of Mississippi’s most seasoned enduring juke joint, the Blue Front Cafe. Holmes’ folks, tenant farmers Carey and Mary Holmes, started the business in the last part of the 1940s.
Luther and Cody Dickinson of the Hernando musical gang North Mississippi Allstars got a Best Contemporary Blues Album Grammy selection for “Up and Rolling.”
North Mississippi Allstars recently got a Grammy nomination for their first album, “Shake Hands and Shorty,” which turned out in 2000.
The Grammy winners will be announced on Jan. 31, 2021.
